The Axe’s View Point is a very popular view point in Bandarawela and it’s named as ‘Porawagala’ in Sinhalese. The Axe’s viewpoint has 270 degree view of surroundings.Idalgadhinna Mountain, Ambewela, Horton Plains, Fox Hill, Kikiliymanna, Pidurutalagala,Hakgala, Narangala, Plucker’s Hut, Namunukula mountain and Ella rock can be seen from here. As well as train track from Heel oya railway station up to Bandarawela railway station. Herman was a British Surveyor who came to survey the area when theBritish were occupying the country and his name has been engraved on a rock boulder at the Axe’s Point.

Ancient Dowa temple with an unfinished image of Lord Buddha carved in to a rock is a major religious place of worship in the territory. Legends say that this statute was built by King Walagamba himself when he hid in the rock cave during South Indian invasions. However, it seems that he had to leave the place before finishing it keeping it uncompleted.
